The former head of the government of Adjara and member of the United National Movement, Levan Varshalomidze, was released after being detained at Atyrau Airport and has already left Kazakhstan, Orda reports, citing The Caucasian Knot.
This was announced at a briefing by one of the party leaders, Elguja Bagrationi.
According to him, on March 18, Varshalomidze arrived in Atyrau on a short business trip. The reason for his detention was a criminal case initiated in Russia — reportedly due to his work with Ukrainian government structures.
Bagrationi called the situation a “misunderstanding.”
They informed him that Russia had placed him on an international wanted list and took him to the city police department, where he was questioned throughout the night. A background check was also conducted… The Kazakh side determined that the sole reason was political prosectuion, and therefore he was released on the morning of March 19,said Bagrationi.
He added that Varshalomidze is currently in Amsterdam.
