A potential breakthrough in the Gaza conflict hit a setback today, as Israel and Hamas exchange blame over a ceasefire agreement, Orda.kz reports.
The deal, emerging from weeks of negotiations in Qatar and announced on January 15, appears to have stalled.
Hamas is abandoning clear agreements agreed upon with the mediators and with Israel in an attempt to exert pressure at the last minute. Israel will not set a date for a cabinet and government meeting until the mediators report that Hamas has confirmed all the details of the agreement," wrote Dmitry Gendelman, an adviser to Netanyahu's office, on Telegram.
Hamas quickly countered these claims through their official Telegram channel.
Hamas is abiding by the ceasefire agreement announced by the mediators, stated Hamas politburo member Izzat al-Rishk.
The conflict erupted on October 7, 2023, when Hamas attacked Israel, resulting in approximately 1,500 deaths and 242 hostages.
Israel's subsequent military operation in Gaza continues today, with the Hamas Health Ministry reporting over 40,000 casualties.
