Gateway to Europe: Container Hub Construction in Mangystau Underway
The construction of the first container hub on the Caspian Sea coast has begun in Mangystau region, Orda.kz reports.
The Aqtau Sea Trade Port and the Lianyungang Port group of companies from China are implementing the project.
As noted by the Ministry of Transport of the Republic of Kazakhstan, the hub will help increase container transportation via the Trans-Caspian route, including Azerbaijan, Georgia, and Türkiye, as well as redirect some cargo from China to Europe.
It will increase the capacity of the Aqtau port to 240 thousand TEU per year, The Ministry of Transport reports.
The construction is planned to be completed in mid-2025.
