According to Financial Times sources familiar with the negotiations, envoys of U.S. President Donald Trump are pressing Volodymyr Zelenskyy to respond within days to Washington’s proposed peace agreement, Orda.kz reports, citing The Financial Times.
The plan reportedly demands that Ukraine make territorial concessions in exchange for vague and undefined security guarantees.
FT reports that Zelenskyy has told European partners he is being pushed to make a quick decision by Trump’s special envoy, Steve Witkoff, and the president’s son-in-law, Jared Kushner.
One source said Trump hopes to secure a peace deal by Christmas.
Zelenskyy has insisted he needs time to consult with European leaders before responding to the White House. Kyiv fears that if the U.S. acts without EU involvement, it could “undermine Western unity.”
The Ukrainian side is stuck between territorial demands it cannot accept and U.S. demands it cannot refuse,One Western official said.
