From Kazakhstan to China: Third Railway Vowed to Be Completed in 2027

At a briefing in the Central Communications Service, the Abay region Akim Nurlan Urankhayev spoke about the Ayagoz-Tacheng railway, Orda.kz reports.
The Akim emphasized that the region is keen on constructing this railway. The new railway will increase cargo transportation between Kazakhstan and China by 20 million tons and open an additional customs crossing on the border with China - in the village of Bakhty.
The length of this railway is 272 kilometers, it will be built using private investment. Now the feasibility study and all the necessary procedures have been completed, we have worked out the route with KTZ, it has changed several times due to the fact that there are difficult-to-pass places along the way. Global Trans Company is the main investor that will build this road. We plan to start this year, the completion date is 2027, the cost is approximately 577.5 billion tenge, the Akim said.
Urankhayev says about 1,700 people, primarily local workers, will be involved in the construction. A corresponding agreement exists with both the investor and KTZ.
The memorandum on the construction of the Ayagoz-Tacheng railway was signed during President Qasym-Jomart Toqayev's official visit to China in October 2023. This route will become the third cross-border railway between Kazakhstan and China.
