In Atyrau, a sentence was passed on defendants who threatened employees of a pretrial detention center, Orda reports.
The prisoners refused to comply with the institution's rules and enlisted the support of accomplices on the outside.
Some of them had been convicted of homicide and considered themselves members of the criminal gang “Four Brothers,” which was once known throughout the country.
Last October, four young men were arrested on suspicion of homicide. The court ruled to hold them in a pre-trial detention facility.
The detainees demonstrated complete disregard for the facility's rules. They refused to comply with the mandatory 15-day quarantine and were repeatedly caught with prohibited items.
One inspection revealed 10 phones, 7 chargers, and 2 modems.
Conflicts with pretrial detention facility staff arose regularly. Refusal to follow requests, provocations, and scandals led to trips to punitive isolation.
While in custody, the accused contacted their acquaintances "on the outside."
They alleged biased attitude of two pre-trial detention center employees. Acquaintances decided to intervene.
In February of this year, unknown individuals came to the home of the regime department head; he has a family.
They demanded that the inspections be stopped and that "a blind eye" be "turned" to the prisoners' violations.
The investigation specifies that another participant remotely coordinated the actions.
The pre-trial detention facility employee immediately reported the situation to his deputy, who arrived promptly.
Threats and pressure were documented both in WhatsApp messages and on audio recordings.
The messenger correspondence was conducted in a group associated with the gang "Four Brothers."
After a long conversation, the culprits left, and the pre-trial detention center employee contacted the National Security Committee. They were soon detained.
In court, three men were found guilty under Part 3 of Article 429 of the Criminal Code (Threat of Using Violence against an Employee of an Institution Providing Isolation from Society).
They received eight years of imprisonment. The fourth defendant in the case was sentenced under Part 4 of Article 28 and Part 4 of Article 429 of the Criminal Code of the Republic of Kazakhstan and received 6 and 8 months.
Incidentally, 3 had priors for severe crimes.
After the verdict, the defendants' relatives expressed discontent, insulted those present, and damaged the court property. Now, they will be held accountable through administrative proceedings.
The relatives want to have the case reviewed and are trying to publicize it through local bloggers.
