A verdict has been passed in Taraz regarding corruption in the construction sector. Former deputy akim of the city, Nurbol Kaldybayev, was found guilty of abuse of office and sentenced to four years in prison, reports Orda.kz correspondent.
A representative of the contracting organization and the former official were on the dock. He received six years in prison for fraud.
According to the investigation, from July 2022 to November 2023, Kaldybayev, who oversaw the construction and housing and communal services sectors in the Taraz Akimat, committed serious violations.
In particular, in the new residential microdistrict of Uly Dala, two apartment buildings were accepted for operation despite being in an unfinished state. More than 1.2 billion tenge were allocated from the budget for these projects.

Initially, Kaldybayev was charged with misappropriation and embezzlement of property (Article 189, Part 4 of the Criminal Code of the Republic of Kazakhstan). During the investigation, the charge was reduced to abuse of office. The damage amounted to 137 million tenge.
The anti-corruption service detained Kaldybayev on December 11, 2023, three weeks after his resignation. He pleaded not guilty in court. However, the contractor testified that Kaldybayev was aware of the condition of the buildings and knowingly signed fictitious acceptance certificates.
