Former Prison Chief Under Investigation in Almaty

A former high-ranking security official who headed the Turkskib district colony is under investigation in Almaty. The information about his detention was confirmed to Orda.kz by The Penal Enforcement Committe (KUIS).
According to some reports, Colonel of Justice Bekzat Akimbay is suspected of corruption. He was reportedly caught in his office. He was in charge of minimum security institution No. 13.
However, the KUIS informed Orda that at the time of his arrest, Akimbay was no longer working in the internal affairs agencies.
The competent authorities are conducting a pre-trial investigation into him, the committee commented in response to the editorial board's inquiry.
Details of the criminal case are not being disclosed.
