According to investigators, the stolen money was funneled through controlled companies, Orda.kz reports.
Former managers of the municipal enterprise “Taza Oskemen” are suspected of embezzling more than 120 million tenge.
In 2022–2023, the former director, his deputy, and a sole proprietor transferred budget funds to the accounts of affiliated companies without holding a tender. The funds were intended for the maintenance of city roads,
the Financial Monitoring Agency (FMA) Department for the East Kazakhstan Region reported.
Investigators said the documents contained false information — including fabricated purchases of sand and bitumen, equipment rentals, and the construction of pavilions that already existed. The proceeds were allegedly cashed and divided among those involved.
The suspects are believed to have used the stolen funds to buy a luxury apartment in Oskemen, a BMW X6M, a Subaru Forester, and several plots of land. The assets have been seized.
The former director of the enterprise has been placed in custody for two months, while the investigation continues.
