Two main defendants in the Kazspetsexport corruption case have been sentenced to long prison terms, Orda.kz reports, citing the Financial Monitoring Agency (FMA).
The leadership of the state enterprise Kazspetsexport was detained in November 2023, along with representatives of suppliers from whom the company procured military goods.
They were accused of embezzling 1.6 billion tenge during procurement deals.
According to the FMA, the trial in Astana’s Specialized Interdistrict Criminal Court has now concluded. The court sentenced general director Arman Ramazanov to 11 years in prison and department director Azat Kudabayev to 10 years.
“The remaining nine defendants were sentenced to various prison terms,” the FMA stated.
In addition, the court satisfied a civil claim of 1.6 billion tenge and ordered the confiscation of 670 million tenge in property from those convicted.
