The criminal case against former Justice Minister Marat Beketayev has been officially submitted to court for consideration, Orda.kz reports, citing Antikor.
The Charges
Beketayev is accused of embezzling budget funds on an especially large scale, fraud, and illegal entrepreneurial activity. According to Antikor, the damage caused to the state exceeds one billion tenge.
Daniyar Bigaydarov, the official representative of the Anti-Corruption Agency (Antikor), confirmed that the case was transferred to court on March 3.
The investigation was completed in July 2024.
Beketayev was detained in October 2023 while attempting to flee Kazakhstan. Investigators allege he was involved in corruption schemes along with representatives of a private company, who have also been implicated.
Beketayev and former Almaty Akim Bauyrzhan Baibek managed Bolashak Consulting Group, which officially represented Kazakhstan in a high-stakes legal battle against Moldovan businessmen Anatolie and Gabriel Stati.
According to MP Azat Peruashev, the company received $60 million annually for its legal services.
Earlier in March 2025, Orda.kz reported that Beketayev’s detention had been extended.
