Former Almaty Official Sentenced for Fraud

A court in Almaty has sentenced the former deputy head of the city department for developing public utility infrastructure, Nurbol Kazhin, Orda.kz reports.
According to Antikor, the former official was accusedof fraud. According to investigators, he deceived the businessman's money.
He was found guilty of embezzling 19.5 million tenge from a local businessman. The defendant promised to assist in concluding public procurement contracts for the sanitary cleaning of courtyards, The Anti-Corruption Service reported.
The Medeu District Court of Almaty sentenced Kazhin to six years in prison and deprived him of the right to hold public service positions for life. In addition, two vehicles worth a total of 21 million tenge were confiscated from the former official. The vehicles will be turned into state revenue.
The sentence has not yet entered into legal force.
