A fire broke out on the evening of April 4 near the village of Qoyanbay in the Beskaragay district, after dry grass caught fire. Fueled by strong winds, the blaze spread to the Morozovsky branch of the Semey Ormany nature reserve, Orda.kz reports.
On April 5, the Ministry of Emergency Situations reported that an aerial visual survey of the area had been conducted. Regional Akim Berik Uali is personally overseeing the response.
The wildfire in the Abay region has been localized,
the department said in a statement.
Authorities stated that the situation remains under close watch and that all resources are focused on fully extinguishing the fire.
In 2023, multiple fires affected the Semey Ormany reserve. In June 2023, one destroyed over 60,000 hectares of forest and claimed 15 lives — 14 foresters and a tractor driver.
