Security cameras at the Turar police department in Ryskulov district have captured evidence of a torture incident, reports Orda.kz.
Prosecutors say the department's deputy chief was caught assaulting a criminal case detainee.
A pre-trial investigation has been launched into this incident under Part 2 of Article 146 of the Criminal Code of the Republic of Kazakhstan (cruel, inhuman or degrading treatment, torture), the supervisory authority commented.
The accused officer has been placed in a detention facility while the investigation continues, though specific details remain undisclosed.
