Perizat Kairat repeatedly mentioned former akim Bauyrzhan Baibek during her trial. However, despite those statements, no checks were carried out against him, Orda.kz reports.
Deputy Chair of the Financial Monitoring Agency (FMA) Zhenis Yelemesov explained that investigators found no other beneficiaries in the case apart from Perizat Kairat and her mother, Gaini Alashbayeva.
We proceeded first and foremost from the ultimate beneficiary - the one who ultimately misappropriated the funds that were coming into this fund. As we previously reported, these funds were used to purchase real estate - a private house, four apartments, cars, and all this property is registered to Perizat and her mother,
Yelemesov told reporters in the Senate.
Kairat, however, claimed that her fund was created “under the Nur Otan party under the leadership of Bauyrzhan Baibek.”
I'm saying, as part of the investigation of the criminal case, we did not identify other persons involved who misappropriated the money. Therefore, there can be no questions here,
Yelemesov added.
Once the verdict enters into legal force, Perizat Kairat’s property will be seized and auctioned, with the proceeds used to compensate the injured party.
In July, the Astana Interdistrict Criminal Court found Perizat Kairat and her mother guilty of embezzling 3.5 billion tenge and laundering criminal proceeds.
Kairat was sentenced to 10 years in prison with confiscation of property, stripped of her Shapagat medal, and banned from fundraising-related charitable activities for 10 years.
Gaini Alashbayeva received seven years in prison and the same ban.
