Five Foreign Nationals Detained in Almaty for Planning Terrorist Attack — KNB

Kazakhstan’s security services have arrested five foreign nationals accused of planning to carry out a terrorist attack in Almaty, Orda.kz reports.
According to the National Security Committee (KNB), the suspects were detained in September, and the planned attack was prevented before it could be executed.
Additionally, eight Kazakh citizens were detained in September and October on suspicion of promoting terrorism. Criminal cases have been opened in all instances,
the KNB said in a statement.
The agency has not disclosed further details about the suspects or the intended target of the attack.
Earlier, Orda.kz reported that Kazakhstan ranks among the countries with the lowest level of terrorist threat, according to the Institute for Economics & Peace.
