Finnish companies are showing growing interest in energy, logistics, and industrial projects in Kazakhstan, Orda.kz reports.

Kazakh President Qasym-Jomart Toqayev spoke with Finnish President Alexander Stubb to discuss strengthening bilateral cooperation. The call took place at Finland’s initiative.

Both leaders expressed a desire to expand trade, economic, cultural, and humanitarian ties. Stubb also confirmed plans for an official visit to Kazakhstan in October 2025. Additionally, they emphasized the importance of collaboration within international organizations to promote global stability and sustainable development.

Over the past year, Kazakhstan has drawn increased attention from Finland and other European nations, particularly in light of sanctions against Russia. In April 2024, Finnish Minister for Foreign Trade Ville Tavio visited Kazakhstan with a delegation of 17 Finnish companies.

During the visit, discussions focused on preventing the circumvention of EU sanctions via Kazakh businesses.

Talks also covered cooperation in mining, energy, logistics, and education. Notably, Bloomberg previously reported that Russian businesses have used Kazakhstan as a route to bypass European sanctions, raising concerns within the EU.
