The number of Kazakhstanis seeking to renounce their citizenship has fallen almost 40 times over the past eight years, Orda.kz reports.
The figures were announced at a meeting of the Citizenship Commission under the president, chaired by State Counselor Yerlan Karin.
Following the meeting, President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev will be advised to grant Kazakh citizenship to 305 people and approve 43 requests to renounce it.
The number of such applications has been falling for several years. In 2019, Kazakhstan registered about 1,700 requests to renounce citizenship. The figure dropped to 944 in 2020, 123 in 2021, 114 in 2022, 107 in 2023, 77 in 2024, 68 in 2025, and 43 since the start of 2026.
The meeting also presented results of an April 2026 public opinion poll by the Kazakhstan Institute for Strategic Studies under the president. According to the survey, 84.4% of citizens believe the country is developing in the right direction.
