On March 3, police detained Aktorgyn Akkenzhebalasy at her home in Almaty. By evening, a court had sentenced her to 10 days of arrest, reports Orda.kz.
The activist was charged with an administrative offense under Article 488, Part Seven of the Code of Administrative Offences for "Organisation of Rallies in Violation of The Established Procedure."
The charge relates to a protest from May 2024, when activists protested following Kuandyk Bishimbayev's sentencing.
On February 28, Zhanar Sekerbayeva, a founder of the Feminita movement, was also detained under the same article for participating in the same march and sentenced to 10 days in prison.
The Feminita team believes that "both Zhanar and Aktorgyn were arrested specifically to disrupt any plans the activists had for March 8."
