A fake security company with links to organized crime was shut down in Almaty, Orda.kz reports.
According to the Ministry of Internal Affairs, the group used intimidation to pressure owners of clubs, cafes, and restaurants, installing their own "security" personnel to take control of the businesses.
Criminal cases have been opened under articles on hooliganism, extortion, kidnapping, arbitrary action, and causing harm to health. A pre-trial investigation has been launched against the leader and members of the group on the facts of the creation, management and participation in the organized criminal group,
said Kuandyk Alpys, a representative of the Ministry's Department for Combating Organized Crime.
The operation involved multiple agencies, including the Ministry of Internal Affairs, the National Security Committee, and the Prosecutor's Office.
Authorities have detained 20 individuals.
The arrests were made in Almaty, Jetisu, Turkistan, Mangystau, Jambyl, and Almaty regions. They are also being checked for involvement in other crimes,
Alpys added.
More than 40 searches were conducted during the operation. Authorities confiscated seven firearms, including three sawed-off shotguns, a Makarov pistol, a Kalashnikov rifle, and over 100 rounds of ammunition.
