Fictitious companies engaged in illegal fish exports have been exposed in the Jetisu region, Orda.kz reports.
The environmental prosecutor’s office revealed that over 20 interconnected firms were sending fish to European markets without permits or quotas. None of them had their own water resources or legal fishing rights.
Investigators cited one example where a company licensed for just 270 tons actually shipped nearly 5,000 tons abroad — exceeding the quota eighteenfold.
“Over two thousand tons of this volume were processed through shell companies,” the supervisory body said.
The estimated damage to the state from four major fishing businesses and their satellite firms exceeded 80 billion tenge.
Prosecutors confirmed that the case materials have been handed over to law enforcement, and an investigation is underway under the article on economic smuggling.
Similar violations have surfaced elsewhere: in Mangystau, 820 tons of ferrous scrap were illegally prepared for export, while in Northern Kazakhstan, 1,500 tons of metal were disguised as alloy steel.
