The extradition arrest of Russian citizen Yevgeny Nakaznenko, detained in September at the Almaty airport, has been extended by 12 months, Orda.kz, citing Radio Azattyq.
The Almaty court issued this ruling on October 26. On November 1, the appellate court upheld this decision, said his lawyer, Dias Akhmetov.
Yevgeny Nakaznenko will be in custody until September 2025.
The lawyer believes the decision violates international conventions ratified by Kazakhstan and criminal and criminal procedural legislation norms.
Meanwhile, Nakaznenko's supporters have begun collecting signatures for an appeal to the Kazakh authorities not to extradite Nakaznenko to the Russian side. They believe that if he is, Moscow will charge the detainee with "justifying terrorism" and "fakes" about the army.
Yevgeny Nakaznenko, the director of an Oskemen language school, was detained at the Almaty airport on September 17 while attempting to fly to Türkiey.
Nakaznenko was placed on the interstate wanted list by the Novosibirsk Investigative Committee under the articles of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation, “Fake News About The Army,” and “Calls for Terrorism.”
According to the lawyer, his client did not know he was wanted in Russia and was planning to go on a business trip abroad.
The lawyer says Nakaznenko has a residence permit in Kazakhstan.
