An explosion occurred at a metal recycling site in the village of Bayserke, Almaty region, Orda.kz reports. Police said the blast happened when an unknown object exploded during processing.
Three people died. Emergency services arrived at the scene — police, firefighters and ambulances. A criminal case was opened. Investigators are currently establishing the causes and circumstances of the tragedy, the police stated.
Local residents insist the site is more than a collection point.
There is a whole production facility here. We have complained to the Akimat, the police and the prosecutor's office several times, but there was no reaction. If the plant had been closed in time, this tragedy could have been avoided, villagers said.
They also emphasized that the plant is located right next to residential buildings, polluting the air and posing risks.
This is the second such case in Bayserke. In January, an explosion at the LGN Metal plant killed one person and injured two others.
