The Kazakh Ministry of Energy has explained why oil production at Tengiz, the country's largest oil and gas field, has sharply declined, Orda.kz reports.
The Ministry reports that the reduction in production is due to technical work at the second-generation plant (SGP).
Oil production at the enterprise decreased by 28-30%, which corresponds to 61-63 thousand tons per day. Production at the SPG was partially stopped for repairs on the E-401A waste heat boiler of the 400 unit, they explained.
When the equipment was inspected, it was found to have rusted in some places. Repairs to the waste heat boiler are planned to be completed by November 23.
Reuters previously reported that Tengiz had cut oil production by more than 20% since the end of October.
Reuters linked this to Kazakhstan's attempts to meet OPEC+ quotas.
