At a government meeting, Ecology Minister Yerlan Nysanbayev warned that the country's flooding risk is high, as March and April will be warmer than usual, Orda.kz reports.
This spring, high water may come to Aqtobe, Qostanay, Qaraganda, Aqmola, North Kazakhstan, and East Kazakhstan regions, as well as to the Ulytau and Abay regions.
The medium-risk group included Almaty, Jambyl, West Kazakhstan regions, Jetisu region, and southern regions.
Prime Minister Olzhas Bektenov instructed Akims to keep the situation under control, strengthen explanatory work among the population and instructed the Ministry of Emergency Situations to ensure full preparedness for a natural disaster.
We are approaching the active phase of the flood period. Akims should take flood issues under special supervision. Ensure the flawless operation of all public warning systems. It is necessary to intensify information and explanatory work in social networks and the mass media. The Ministry of Emergency Situations should ensure full readiness for floods and coordination of the work of central and local government agencies. In this regard, I instruct Kanat Aldabergenovich to prepare a meeting of the republican operational headquarters on this issue in the near future, the head of the cabinet instructed.
The Kazhydromet meteorological service has prepared detailed forecasts for each region, indicating specific settlements in the flood threat zone.
