A new pilot project called Smart Customs has launched at the Bakhty-Pokitu border crossing between Kazakhstan and China. For the first time, trucks are crossing the border without drivers, guided entirely by autonomous navigation and digital systems, Orda.kz reports.
As part of the project, both countries now recognize a unified electronic customs declaration. Cargo will be processed 24/7, with all procedures handled digitally. The plan is to move up to 10 million tons of goods through this checkpoint annually.
The initiative was formalized during a meeting between Zhandos Duisembiyev, Chair of Kazakhstan’s State Revenue Committee, and Zhi Xianwei, Secretary of the Tacheng District Party Committee.
The two sides signed a memorandum of cooperation.
