Director of Bokeyorda Nature Reserve Arrested for Large-Scale Embezzlement

The Anti-Corruption Service (Antikor) has launched an investigation into the general director of the Bokeyorda State Nature Reserve, Orda.kz reports.
According to investigators, the director is suspected of embezzling significant sums from the budget.
He is suspected of embezzling budget funds on a large scale by illegally paying wages to a person who did not actually work in the reserve,
the Anti-Corruption Service stated.
The suspect has been placed under arrest with court approval. Antikor is also investigating his potential involvement in other offenses.
The Bokeyorda State Nature Reserve, located across the Bokeyorda, Zhanibek, Kaztal, and Zhangalinsky districts of the West Kazakhstan region, is a specially protected natural area created to conserve the Ural saiga population.
Last year, the reserve came under scrutiny for plans to purchase fire and cargo vehicles at inflated prices.
