Deputy Raises Concerns About Abuse and Deaths in The Army
At a Ministry of Internal Affairs briefing, Majilis deputy Natalia Dementyeva raised concerns over cases of cruelty in the armed forces and the deaths of service members, Orda.kz reports.
As the mother of a soldier currently serving his military duty, and on behalf of other mothers, I cannot help but be concerned by the cases of abuse in the army, including tragic deaths and suicides. These events cannot be viewed as isolated. This state of affairs undermines public trust not only in the armed forces but in state institutions as a whole. When will real measures be taken to finally eliminate the deaths of soldiers in peacetime?
Dementyeva said.
Responding, Deputy Minister of Defense Shaikh-Khasan Zhazykbayev stated that the ministry is taking active steps to prevent such incidents.
Organizational and methodological documents have been developed, military psychologists are undergoing advanced training courses, and mental health centers are being utilized. A Telegram bot powered by artificial intelligence has also been created, which anonymously and 24/7 helps military personnel and their families cope with stress,
he explained.
Zhazykbayev added that a working group has been established to introduce new psychodiagnostic methods in the military selection process.
Psychology students have already begun to undergo internships with the troops,
the deputy minister noted.
Deputy Chairperson of the Majilis Daniya Espayeva emphasized, however, that psychological assistance alone is not enough — effective measures must also be implemented directly within military units to address the problem.
