The construction of a hematology center in Oskemen, launched under former regional Akim Danial Akhmetov, remains unfinished, Orda.kz reports.
The project was not aligned with the regional development plan and has since turned into a long-term construction site.
Vice Minister of Health Timur Muratov acknowledged the need for an onco-hematology center in the East Kazakhstan region, noting the area’s population — formerly united with the Abay region — exceeds 1.2 million people and continues to register cases requiring specialized care.
The determination of the bed capacity of this center was not coordinated with the regional long-term plan, before its approval, consideration. The Ministry of Health did not participate in planning its capacity,
said Muratov.
The Ministry of Health and the East Kazakhstan Akimat have now decided to complete the project, but with a revised profile based on current healthcare needs. The facility, originally designed for 150 beds, will now house not only a hematology unit but also other medical specialties in demand locally.
Muratov added that funding for the project’s completion is being provided by a special state fund sourced from returned assets recovered from confiscated or voluntarily repatriated funds.
