More than 30 Kazakhs are currently in groups in Syria, Kazakhstan's Ambassador to Russia, Dauren Abayev, reports Orda, citing RIA Novosti.
Additionally, he stated that over 10 Kazakhstan citizens are in the Al-Hol and Roj camps, which are controlled by Kurdish formations in Syria.
Most of them do not intend to return to their homeland. Some plan to obtain Syrian citizenship and stay through permanent residency, the ambassador said.
Abayev emphasized that Kazakhstan has no significant concerns about the return of militants from Syria:
Our national special services have a rich arsenal of practical developments in monitoring, returning and extraditing Kazakhstanis from Syria, so there are no concerns about possible destructive activities of those who have returned to Kazakhstan, said Dauren Abayev.
He also highlighted that between 2019 and 2021, Kazakhstan conducted a special humanitarian operation, Zhusan, which received positive international recognition. Through this initiative, 600 individuals were repatriated, including 413 children.
