The cyclone will bring snow, rain, and blizzards across Kazakhstan, Orda.kz reports.
According to Kazhydromet, the cyclone and its associated frontal systems will bring varying levels of precipitation to most of the country. Northern and eastern regions will see snow, which will be heavy in some areas, while the south is expected to experience mainly rain.
Winds will strengthen, and blizzards, icy roads and fog are possible in some areas.
«After the cyclone, an anticyclone from the European part of Russia will move into western Kazakhstan. This will stop the precipitation and cause temperatures to fall», said the forecasters.
Night-time temperatures are expected to drop to -10–22°C in the west, -17–25°C in the north, and 0–8°C in the south. From 23 February, a sharp cold snap is forecast in the northwest, and from 24 February in the north, east and central regions, with temperatures falling to -25–37°C.
Kazhydromet has forecast frosty conditions in most regions for today. In Astana, temperatures fell to -20–22°C overnight and are expected to reach -8–10°C during the day. In Almaty and Shymkent, however, daytime temperatures are expected to remain above zero.
