The FMA claims that there are currently no criminal cases against oligarch Kairat Boranbayev, Orda.kz reports.
As Deputy Chair of the Financial Monitoring Agency Zhenis Yelemesov explained, some criminal cases against the businessman were dropped because he had paid off the damage.
As for tax evasion, he fully repaid the damage. The Criminal Code requires the case to be closed if the person has repaid the damage. As for the others, we provided information that the cases were sent to court under procedural agreements. And he voluntarily repaid the damage, Yelemesov said on the sidelines of the Majilis.
Boranbayev was sentenced to six years for aiding in the embezzlement of state property.
He spent almost two and a half years in prison. However, in November 2023, the unserved portion of the oligarch's prison sentence was replaced with a punishment in the form of restriction of freedom.
