CSTO Secretary General Imangali Tasmagambetov views the renewed dialogue between Moscow and Washington as an important signal for global affairs, Orda.kz reports.
Speaking in Bishkek at a meeting of the Council of the CSTO Parliamentary Assembly, Tasmagambetov noted that political and diplomatic contacts between Russia and the United States have resumed, describing the development as a source of “cautious optimism.”
He emphasized that the very fact of dialogue contributes to easing tensions and stabilizing the military and political environment.
Undoubtedly, the multiplier effect of the Russian-American dialogue will have a direct impact on global processes and help reduce tensions across various parts of Eurasia, including within the CSTO’s area of responsibility,he said.
The conflict between India and Pakistan was also addressed.
While tensions have somewhat eased, Tasmagambetov warned that the risk of renewed conflict remains. He called on both sides — and the international community — to work toward preventing further escalation.
Other issues raised in his address included the situation on the Korean Peninsula, the border agreement between Kyrgyzstan and Tajikistan, developments in the South Caucasus, and the outcomes of the recent CSTO Collective Security Council session.
Tasmagambetov previously faced criticism on social media regarding an allegedly "pro-Russian" stance.
In a March statement in Kazakh, he rejected the accusations, stressing that he has never betrayed Kazakhstan’s interests.
