The Caspian Pipeline Consortium (CPC) announced that no serious environmental damage has resulted from the accident at the offshore berthing facility of its Novorossiysk terminal, Orda.kz reports.
Kazakh oil exports were redirected to another berth that had just undergone repairs.
According to the CPC, following the accident at the CPC-2 VPU on August 29, specialists monitored seawater, the coastline, and air quality. No shoreline pollution was detected.
The Caspian Sea is tested for oil content twice daily — in the morning and evening — with 115 samples taken so far. CPC stated that monitoring has confirmed the oil slick has not spread eastward from the incident site.
According to environmental monitoring data, no exceedances of maximum permissible concentrations of pollutants in water or air were recorded after the oil spill response operation concluded on August 30, 2025, the consortium said in a statement.
After scheduled maintenance, CPC commissioned Berth No. 3 (VPU-3) at the marine terminal. It had been shut down on August 15 for equipment replacement. Shipments of Kazakh oil have now been successfully transferred to the repaired facility.
The accident at the CPC-2 VPU occurred on August 29, when oil spilled onto the sea surface during tanker loading. CPC later reported that the spill was contained and exports of Kazakhstan’s crude were not disrupted.
