The Caspian Pipeline Consortium (CPC) has paid 179.3 million rubles, roughly $1.97 million USD, in compensation for damage caused by an oil spill at its sea terminal in Novorossiysk, Orda.kz reports.
The incident took place on August 29 during cargo operations, when oil leaked through the hoses of a remote berthing device and reached the sea surface, prompting an immediate cleanup.
According to Rosprirodnadzor, the Federal Service for Supervision of Natural Resources, the losses totaled 8.43 cubic meters of oil, equivalent to 6.7 tons, based on water surveys, laboratory analyses, and reports from response teams.
On September 8, the regulator issued a demand for voluntary compensation, which the consortium settled in full on September 10.
