The first court hearing in the case of Temirlan Yensebek, who runs the satirical Instagram page Qaznews24, was scheduled for February 21, 2025. The proceedings have been postponed again, this time with no new date set, reports Orda.kz.
The day before, the judge's secretary contacted attorney Zhanara Balgabayeva and said the hearing would be rescheduled.
The reason given was "the judge's personal family circumstances."
The new trial date has not yet been announced.
The first hearing was supposed to take place on February 14, 2025. Friends of the young man, activists, and journalists gathered at the courthouse.
The activist faces criminal charges under Article 174 of the Criminal Code of the Republic of Kazakhstan ("Inciting ethnic discord").
The alleged cause was a post mentioning Tina Kandelaki. The controversial song "Yo, Orystar" can be heard in the post.
Orda.kz continues to follow the developments.
