The decision on administrative arrest was made after his detention on the night of October 6 in Astana. Narymbay was charged with "failure to comply with a court decision," as his lawyer Zhanar Balgabaeva wrote, Orda.kz reports.
Narymbay was charged under Article 669 of the Code of Administrative Offences, which pertains to failure to comply with a sentence or court decision.
The activist had expressed dissatisfaction with the obstructions at polling stations. Lawyer Zhanara Balgabaeva reported that the court based its decision on the fact that Narymbay is prohibited from engaging in public and political activities under a 2015 court verdict.
In February 2022, the activist was arrested at the Almaty airport while trying to enter Kazakhstan. Several months later, he claimed to have been tortured in a pre-trial detention center and declared a hunger strike. In 2016, Narymbayev was convicted of inciting discord through social network posts and sentenced to three years.
