The Chinese Ambassador to Russia, Zhang Hanhui, expressed skepticism about the possibility of Russian gas being supplied to China through Kazakhstan, Orda.kz reports, citing RIA Novosti.
There’s only one pipeline running through Kazakhstan, and it’s already at full capacity, transporting gas from Turkmenistan to China, he told journalists at the Eurasian Oil and Gas Forum.
Zhang also noted that China produces its own gas in the western regions, including the Tarim Basin and the provinces of Gansu and Shanxi, and transports it eastward via the same corridor.
He said accommodating Russian gas would require constructing a new pipeline, which he described as “generally unrealistic.”
Discussions are ongoing regarding the proposed "Power of Siberia-2" pipeline, with a possible route passing through Mongolia.
