The Chinese state-owned company China Energy will implement two major energy projects in Kazakhstan worth more than $1 billion, Orda.kz reports.

According to the Kazakh Ministry of Energy, Minister Yerlan Akkenzhenov met with China Energy CEO Qiao Xiubing in Astana, where the company confirmed plans for two large-scale initiatives:

  • 300 MW solar power plant in the Turkistan region
  • 500 MW wind power plant in the Qaraganda region

Both projects fall under the intergovernmental agreement on renewable energy, signed by Kazakhstan and China at the UN Climate Change Conference in Baku.

Kazakhtelecom will also partner with China Energy to build a data center powered by renewable energy, investing in broader goals of digitalization and a “green transition.”
The partnership with China Energy is an example of successful investment cooperation that brings not only capital but also advanced technologies to Kazakhstan. Projects in the Turkistan and Qaraganda regions represent our shared contribution to achieving carbon neutrality. We also see enormous potential for expanding cooperation in energy storage and smart grid development,
 said Yerlan Akkenzhenov.
