In the first half of 2025, China exported 77,600 vehicles to Kazakhstan — more than double the figure for the same period last year — propelling Kazakhstan into 10th place among the world’s largest importers of Chinese cars, according to the China Association of Automobile Manufacturers, Orda.kz reports.
While Kazakhstan saw a surge in shipments, exports to Russia fell sharply — down 59% to 171,000 vehicles, the steepest drop among major markets. Analysts cite higher car loan rates and increased recycling fees as key factors.
Exports to Brazil also declined by 7.9%, while Mexico and the UAE emerged as growth leaders, with imports rising 31% and 59% respectively.
Overall, China exported 3.08 million vehicles in the first half of the year, including 1.06 million new energy vehicles (NEVs). Chery led with 544,900 units, followed by BYD with 443,100 — a 118% jump for the latter.
Previously, Orda.kz reported that as Chinese cars gained popularity in Kazakhstan, complaints about their quality spiked. In 2024 alone, the Consumer Rights Protection Committee recorded 57 cases involving defects, with some buyers securing refunds or replacements through the courts.
