Caspian Seals Spotted on Ice Floes in Mangystau

Despite the warming season, ice floes remain on the Caspian Sea, and Mangystau region’s fisheries inspectors have captured footage of Caspian seals resting, hunting, and preparing for migration, Orda reports.
However, wildlife experts warn about a persistent threat to the seal population.
Poachers set fishing nets, and unfortunately, seals often get caught in them. As a result, many do not survive, regional fisheries inspectors stated.
Authorities acknowledge that removing all illegal fishing nets is nearly impossible due to the many poachers who continuously set new traps. Despite ongoing efforts, the threat to the Caspian seal population remains critical.
