Burger King Suspends Regional Head After Public Outcry Over Autistic Employee’s Dismissal

Following public outcry over the dismissal of an autistic employee at Burger King, the regional head of the chain was suspended, Orda.kz reports
The Ministry of Labour has become involved in the case, stating that an inspector visited the employee’s family to assist them with the appeal process.
«The State Labour Inspector of Almaty visited Alibek Karatai at home and spoke with him. His father was also given a detailed explanation over the phone about how to file an appeal and what rights are guaranteed by labour legislation.»
The company itself has also confirmed that official proceedings are underway.
«During the inspection, one of the managers was temporarily suspended from work,» Burger King reported
The Ministry of Labour said that new details would be reported later. The situation is under control.
Within a few hours of the news being published, Burger King Kazakhstan released an official statement on social media.
«As part of management decisions made, territorial managers Sergei and Anastasia are no longer employees of the company. Burger King Kazakhstan categorically does not accept any forms of discrimination, disrespect, or statements that may offend the dignity of citizens of the Republic of Kazakhstan»,it says in the publication
The company added that the proceedings have not yet been completed.
«We are conducting an additional analysis of internal processes and interactions within the team to ensure the objectivity and completeness of consideration of all facts. Burger King Kazakhstan adheres to the principles of inclusiveness and equal opportunities when hiring and working with employees», representatives noted
Thus, the final conclusions on the situation have not yet been made — the internal verification continues.
The recent dismissal of an autistic employee at Burger King has become public. His mother shared this on social networks, after which she received a lot of support from people. According to her, the new management was engaged in «hidden bullying», forcing them to resign.
