As part of the Astana Economic Forum, a session was held on the topic “Water Security as a Key Investment in Central Asia’s Sustainable Future.” Deputy Prime Minister of Kazakhstan Kanat Bozumbayev delivered a report, Orda.kz reports.
In the face of rapidly changing climate conditions, Central Asian countries are facing growing water-related challenges — declining river flows, more frequent droughts, and floods. In this context, effective water use becomes especially relevant and a priority at the level of state policy,
Bozumbayev said.
The deputy prime minister also commented on the work of the International Fund for Saving the Aral Sea (IFAS).
We have high hopes for the upcoming agreements on reforming IFAS, aimed at increasing the effectiveness of this important regional organization, taking into account the interests of all Central Asian countries,
Bozumbayev emphasized.
The countries of the region must urgently make decisions on water issues to be prepared for future climate and natural risks, Bozumbayev concluded.
