Sayakhat Nurbekov, who rose to prominence during the high-profile trial of former Economy Minister Kuandyk Bishimbayev, has been appointed deputy prosecutor of Kazakhstan’s Bayzak district, Orda.kz reports.
Nurbekov played a key role in the investigation into the November 2023 homicide of Saltanat Nukenova at the BAU restaurant in Astana’s Gastrocenter. During the probe, Nurbekov examined whether security was present at the restaurant, who among the guards had called Baizhanov, and why Bishimbayev asked his relative to delete security footage.
From 2013 to 2018, Nurbekov was a chief specialist at various district and regional courts in the Jambyl region. Between 2018 and 2023, he served in several roles within the prosecutor’s offices of the Merke district, the city of Taraz, and the Jambyl regional prosecution department.
In 2023–2025, he held the position of senior prosecutor in the Astana city prosecutor’s office and later served as the senior assistant to the city’s chief prosecutor.
Nurbekov's Instagram account currently has over 17,000 followers.
Saltanat Nukenova was killed on the night of November 8–9, 2023. Bishimbayev, detained that night, was later found guilty of killing her.
