Billion-Tenge Embezzlement Case Against Former Vice Minister of Culture and Sports Heads to Court

The Anti-Corruption Agency has wrapped up its investigation of a major corruption case involving the former Vice Minister of Culture and Sports, Yerlan Kozhagapanov, and executives from a contracting firm, Orda reports.
The case, which alleges office abuse and the embezzlement of over one billion tenge, was transferred to court by the Prosecutor General's Office on December 13, 2024.
Kozhagapanov was arrested on March 1, 2024, following a covert operation by the Anti-Corruption Agency.
The investigation revealed that the former vice minister allegedly used his position to favor a specific commercial organization during the bidding process for the XV Interregional Cooperation Forum between Kazakhstan and Russia.
The event in question took place in Petropavlovsk in 2018.
