Two months before the end of his term, the American president has allowed Ukraine's use of long-range ATACMS missiles on Russian territory, Orda.kz reports, citing The New York Times.
The decision was reportedly a response to Russia's alleged deployment of North Korean troops in combat operations in the Kursk region. Officials have stated that the weapons will likely be employed initially against Russian and North Korean troops in the Kursk region.
Zelenskyy responded to the administration's change of heart:
Today, there’s a lot of talk in the media about us receiving permission for respective actions. But strikes are not carried out with words. Such things are not announced. Missiles will speak for themselves, he said.
Meanwhile, Reuters reports that the missiles provided to Ukraine have a range of up to 306 km, which allows them to strike targets deep in Russian territory.
The initiative has received support from allies, who have urged to give the go-ahead on such strikes.
