Baibeks Mentioned in Court Ruling on Kospayev Organized Crime Case

The names of the former Akim of Almaty, Bauyrzhan Baibek, and his father, Kydyrgali Baibek, appear in a court ruling concerning the Kospayev organized crime group.
The materials indicate that they purchased real estate at reduced prices from the construction company TOO "AV-Construction", which was run by members of the criminal group, reports Orda.kz.
The main trial in the Kospayev organized crime group case was held behind closed doors, so the materials are publicly unavailable.
The brother of the Kospayevs, Aibek, was tried separately.

In agreement with the head of the organized group, Yeldos Kospayev, and other persons, a decision was made to sell the real estate objects entrusted to them in favor of Baibek Kydyrgali, who is the father of the former Akim of Almaty, Baibek Bauyrzhan, at a price below cost, to the detriment of the enterprise and its legal owners,
the court document states.
Therefore, the purchase of an apartment and two non-residential premises in Almaty from the company AV-Construction at a price per square meter from 230 thousand to 425 thousand tenge, was made.
This is significantly lower than the construction cost.

Buyer's representative — Zhanar Baibek, in the interests of Kydyrgali Baibek. The agreement was signed on December 23, 2020.
The court completed its consideration of the case of the Kospayev organized crime group at the beginning of the year. Yeldos Kospayev, nicknamed Ludayed ( The Man-eater - Ed.), headed the group.
He was considered to be Bolat Nazarbayev's right hand.
The verdict was passed on 11 defendants under articles on corporate raiding (Article 249 of the Criminal Code of the Republic of Kazakhstan), theft (Article 189), creation of and participation in an organized criminal group (Article 262), and other crimes. One was also convicted of sexual assault (Article 120).
Yeldos Kospayev, named as the head of the organized crime group, was sentenced to 15 years in prison, his brother Aidos to 12 years. The other defendants will serve prison terms ranging from nine to 12 years.
The court sentenced Kospayev's older brother, Aibek, to 12 years in prison.
