AZAL Plane Crash: Expert Comments on Decision to Send Black Boxes to Brazil
Political scientist Gaziz Abishev commented on the decision to send the flight recorders (“black boxes”) from the crashed plane to the Brazilian Center for Investigation and Prevention of Aviation Accidents (CENIPA), Orda.kz reports.
He emphasized that this decision demonstrates Kazakhstan’s integrity and desire to maintain impartiality in a complex geopolitical situation.
According to Abishev, although Deputy Prime Minister Kanat Bozumbayev previously stated that no pressure was being exerted on the Kazakh commission investigating the crash, the situation looks different.
It is obvious that the situation is not simple. This is evident from the rhetoric of the Azerbaijani leadership. It would not be like this if there was complete mutual understanding between Baku and Moscow.
The expert believes that Kazakhstan is also likely subject to political pressure, especially from Russia.
Moscow has proposed sending the black boxes to the CIS's International Aviation Committee (IAC).
According to Abishev, giving the flight recorders to Brazil (the country where the Embraer aircraft was manufactured) was a fundamental step for Kazakhstan.
This decision is aimed at neutralizing pressure and ensuring an impartial transcript that inspires confidence in the international community, he noted.
He also linked this decision with the role of Kazakhstan's President Qasym-Jomart Toqayev.
President Toqayev, who managed to talk with Presidents Aliyev and Putin, is showing himself to be an unbiased mediator in Russia's tough situation with Azerbaijan. He has come to the conclusion that sending the flight recorders to a neutral international center is the best option that will be appreciated by all parties.
On December 27, Kazakhstan's President, Qasym-Jomart Toqayev, received a call from his Azerbaijani counterpart, Ilham Aliyev.
