Kazakhstan’s parliament has adopted a draft law on gas supply which prohibits drivers of gas-powered vehicles from refuelling anywhere other than at specially equipped gas stations, Orda.kz reports.
According to MP Yedil Zhanbyrshin, 90% of the 3,000 autogas refuelling stations are above-ground tanks and modular stations.
«Explosions occurred at such stations in the Turkestan and Atyrau regions in 2025, resulting in fatalities,» he said.
Therefore, the new draft law includes the following provisions:
- Tanks at newly built autogas refuelling stations must be installed underground;
- A transition period until 1 January 2031 is set to convert tanks at existing stations to underground installation;
- Refuelling of vehicles and household gas cylinders outside locations permitted by law is banned.
