A recent audit by the Supreme Audit Chamber uncovered a loophole in gas pricing regulations, revealing that gas distribution companies were purchasing commercial gas from JSC NC Qazaq Gaz and reselling it at inflated prices, profiting as intermediaries, Orda.kz reports.
Auditors determined that since 2017, the state had not regulated retail gas prices for distribution companies, allowing them to set their markups.
In order to ensure a unified approach, we recommended that the government consider the issue of introducing appropriate amendments and additions to the Entrepreneurial Code, stated the audit report.
The Cabinet of Ministers responded by implementing amendments to the Entrepreneurial Code, officially extending state regulation of retail commercial gas prices to all market participants as of January 1.
